Our Mission
Statement
The Foothills Foundation Quarter Horse Club (FFQHC) was formed
to comply with the stated goals of the National Foundation
Quarter Horse Association (NFQHA). In accordance with the
NFQHA's Statement of Purpose, FFQHC's main purpose is to preserve
the Foundation Quarter Horse through promotion (sponsoring
horse shows and other events) and education.
As in any pursuit, education is of tantamount importance
to the success of a venture. In this particular venture, many
people are unaware of the beginnings of the Quarter Horse
breed. Because they are given a certificate of registration
from the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) they have
no reason to wonder how much actual Quarter Horse blood their
horse carries. These owners are often unaware that the AQHA
has allowed, for more than 50 years, out crossing the Quarter
Horse on registered Thoroughbreds. While NFQHA does not question
the quality of animals registered, NFQHA realized that a diminutive,
numerical value was needed to pinpoint the amount of Thoroughbred
blood any pedigree carried. By devising such a formula and
advertising it nationally, the NFQHA began an expansive education
program.
The FFQHC was established to continue NFQHA's work on a local
level. Information about the Club, and the NFQHA can be read
in many regional horse publications/newspapers, and those
interested call FFQHC or NFQHA for more information. When
they join the club they will find an energetic group of people
that work well together to sponsor shows (entry reserved to
NFQHA registered horses) conduct riding clinics, organized
trail rides, camp outs and cattle events, as well as shore
information about bloodlines. These varied events signify
the versatility of the members horses, one of the primary
virtues of the foundation bred Quarter Horse.
The FFQHC complies with NFQHA's requirement that the promotional
horse offered showcase the versatile, naturally working horse.
In many of today's shows, horses are asked to perform in unnatural
gaits and manners that sometimes are accomplished through
abusive training measures. The registered Foundation Quarter
Horse is asked to perform quietly in it's own natural way
of going, with no excessive stops, turns, or exaggerated gaits.
These movements can be accomplished through "normal",
non-abusive training methods.
FFQHC's informational materials and promotional events are
designed to join together breeders, ranchers, trainers, competitors
and everyday owners in a concerted effort to preserve the
great attributes and qualities that exemplify the Foundation
Quarter Horse.
For
those of you who own
NFQHA registered horses . . .
